A Second Story

Hello everyone!

My name is Lauren and I’m twenty-four years old.  I live in upstate New York around the Saratoga area.  I decided to take part of the first assignment and complete it a second time (first is in the discussion forum) to actually tell you about me instead of write a story.

To use the word “I,” to help you all get to know me and my sense of self or my place in this world is an interesting task to complete.  I’m not quite used to speaking about myself because…I suppose I’m more interested in the world around me.  (Funny, I just started this and already have used the word “I” multiple times).
I have, sense I could remember, maintained an extreme interest in people I don’t know and places I have never been.  Different cultures, languages and travel are fascinating subjects to me.  “Wanderlust,” would be the word to describe the part of my personality that gets lost along the wayside in my day-to-day life where I work, learn, run and play.

As anyone can relate, the dreams we have for the achievements of our lives do get lost as we function to maintain relationships, pay bills, finish degrees and earn better jobs for a better living.

I work as an assistant photographer where I am constantly learning something new about my other passion besides travel: photography.  Lucky for me these two are not conflicting but actually complimentary.  I hope to one day considered my career something that involves both.

I am currently finishing my bachelor’s degree in Digital Art and Design, which is basically an interesting cluster of courses involving graphic design, photography and literature.

In between these things I am running around playing with my camera or trying to learn languages.  Italian is my current challenge as I am pursuing a spot in an interexchange program for the summer so I can teach English in Italy for a month or two.   I am traveling to France in July with absolutely no experience with French except for, at the risk of sounding ignorant--“Bon Jour,” and “C’est la vie.”

I have also much to my own surprise, become extremely interested in learning Korean as a language and as a culture.

To sum up this extremely abridged version about myself for you all:  I am a traveler, photographer, reader, writer, student, 24-year-old and proud owner of the coolest boxer pup on the planet.  I have also been a vegetarian for all 24 of those years—don’t ask me why but people seem to that is a very important identifying factor about myself.
